[LFW] Rhianna's Fall/Winter 2013 collaboration with River Island!

Singer Rhianna presented her collaboration with clothing label River Island a little over a week ago.  When I initially seen images of her collection a number of thoughts and questions crossed my mind but before writing a review assessing my opinion on whether this endeavor was a success or flop I needed to take a few days to actually really think about it.

Well, the jury is still out.  The clear inspiration for the collection is RiRi herself.  She's definitely channeled her current style of mixing nineties grunge with a racy edge.  The only clear group I see being extremely excited and flocking in herds to snag a piece from this collection are RiRi's fans.  This collection is the perfect vehicle for them to emulate her unconventional and carefree style.

[NYFW] Ruffian F/W 2013 Collection!

As dreamers, Brian Wolk and Claude Morais drew inspiration for their NYFW show presented at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week from romantic imaginings of reverie.  They revisited the Bowery of the nineteenth century, when it was lined with opium dens and theaters.

The caps, tassels and round wire eye frames weren't necessary when a silk printed Coromandel-screen motif effectively conveyed their message about Chinoiserie. A few stand out pieces were the purple chalk board pant suit; a fitted peplum jacket in floral jacquard; and cropped pants in the same stunning fabric.

[NYFW] Venexiana F/W 2013 Collection!

Kati Stern, acclaimed Venexiana designer showcased their Fall/Winter 2013 collection during New York Fashion Week at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.  Opulent furs, lush velvet fabrics, intricate brocades, and exquisite beading littered the catwalk.  Each ensemble that Stern sent down the runway echoed the vibes of Hollywood Glamour.  Utilizing the signature silhouette of fit-to-flare trumpet and mermaid gowns oozed 1950's glam.  Stern modernized this silhouette by incorporating the element of a draped and layered train.

With each model that sashayed down the runway she left a fabulous luxe fabric train that I couldn't help but cross my fingers and hope that with it being awards season that one of these stunning pieces would make their way to the red carpet.

[NYFW] Alon Livne F/W 2013 Collection!

It's definitely not a secret that one of my greatest joys in being a fashion seeker is discovering a new up and coming talent that is well on their way to becoming a household name worldwide joining the elite ranks of Alexander McQueen, Oscar de la Renta, Alexander Wang, etc.  Each NYFW season I attend I am always on the look for the next fashion star that is going to take this industry by storm and after attending Alon Livne's show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week I know that he is the one.

His 2013 Fall/Winter collection was inspired by a beautifully bleak post-apocalyptic world as described in the writings of British author J.G. Ballard.  This imaginary world is inhabited by figures transformed through crystallization; once breathing, now beautifully frozen jewels imprisoned in world hung between day and night, dusk and dawn.

This beautiful collection came to life with the utilization a fluid drape that were juxtaposed with stunning beading and crystal work.  His ability to give texture to this fluidity through structured shapes that mimicked earthen layered rocks was done so delicately that it was clearly evident that his is the master of balancing old and new: modern sewing techniques paralleled by finishing methods taken from the couture world.

[NYFW] Son Jung Wan F/W 2013 Collection!

Son Jung Wan presented a collection featuring jewel tone gowns, felt neutral jackets and caramel pleated wool dresses.  Her "Dynamic Romance" collection was inspired by two Russian greats, Kandinsky and Catherine Palace.  She used ox blood red, sapphire blue, and violet accents to punch up the neutral palette of beige, gray and metallic.

Playing up the "Dynamic Romance" theme of her collection, Wan offered both men's and women's looks.  While this duality is definitely a strength of Wan, it was a bit too much of extremes with the wide variety of silhouettes, shapes and fabrications.
